I think I'm doing.

But when the sound comes out I can't sustain a note without a shaking
sound. I'm told this is a sign of tension. Is this correct?

I've tried relaxing but I'm still not making any progress. At the same
time I have had a bit of a bad back. Is there any relationship here?

What's your diagnosis?

I'm not a beginner, but I've been trying to keep my tongue higher to blow a
'cool column of air' at the reed. I often get a rattling, or breaking up type
sound which may be similar to what you are experiencing--I never had this
problem when I kept my tongue lower. So, to add to David's question, might
this have to do with too much pressure for the reed strength?
