<<<Though I still find myself a fan of the Zonda reeds, maybe because the
Zonda cut is so similar to the hand made reeds I used for years. However, I
find I can use Vandoren V-12's and Zonda's interchangeably and no-one can
tell the difference.>>>

Kevin opined:

I also use Zondas and V-12s interchangeably on my Greg Smith 1*, keeping a
few of each in the "starting rotation." Here in Seattle, the weather
changes every 15 minutes or so. If it's wet, the V-12s seem to work better
for me; if dry, I usually end up picking a Zonda.

Walter adds:

Exactly, in damp weather I go to the Vandorens. In (cold) dry weather they
warp....and I go back to the Zondas.

Bak to Kevin:

The cut of the Zonda appears to be exactly the same as the old Vic Olivieri
tempered--but they seem to do a much better job of making them consistent.

Walter interjects: Yes the tempered Vic Oliveiri's were great, weren't they. A
gutsy sound, you could really BLOW against them. I could never make Morree's
work, they were too mushy for me.

Kevin again

We are truly living in great times. When I was a young man--when mastodons
roamed the Earth--you basically had to use Vandorens (in the purple box). >>

Walter:

I remember! The purple and yellow box! With 25, yes TWENTY-FIVE, gorgeous
glowing golden reeds! all for $6.50.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, only five worked at all!!!!!!
