GrabnerWG@-----.com opined:

<<<Though I still find myself a fan of the Zonda reeds, maybe because the
Zonda cut is so similar to the hand made reeds I used for years. However, I
find I can use Vandoren V-12's and Zonda's interchangeably and no-one can
tell the difference.>>>

I also use Zondas and V-12s interchangeably on my Greg Smith 1*, keeping a
few of each in the "starting rotation." Here in Seattle, the weather
changes every 15 minutes or so. If it's wet, the V-12s seem to work better
for me; if dry, I usually end up picking a Zonda.

The cut of the Zonda appears to be exactly the same as the old Vic Olivieri
tempered--but they seem to do a much better job of making them consistent.

We are truly living in great times. When I was a young man--when mastodons
roamed the Earth--you basically had to use Vandorens (in the purple box).
Unless you could find Olivieris, there just wasn't much else to use. Today,
we have good Vandorens (I like the V-12s, but there are many flavors),
Zondas, Olivieris again, Marcas, Queens, Grand Concerts, Legeres and
Fibercells (which work fine for me on bass and the larger saxophones), and
what appear to be a legion of fine custom mouthpiece makers who make great
appliances to use them on. We even have several super horns to choose from,
(albeit at stiff prices).
