I've used NoteWorthy Composer for a while now, I'm running the very
latest version, and I would agree that it still has a lot of irritating
shortcomings. For example, you can do triplets, but not quintuplets or
duplets or any other grouping. You can't do "hairpins" to indicate
cresc or diminuendo. It insists on drawing slurs on the opposite end of
the notes to the tails, which isn't always what you want. It's very
difficult to do more than one part to a stave, it can be done, but it
involves being very careful about the order you enter notes and whether
their tails are up or down. If one part has a rest you still have to
set the rest's "tail" up or down - not very intuitive. Some other
things can only be done by having a hidden stave containing one version
for MIDI playback and stave containing the version to print, trills are
an example. I could list a lot more that I dislike if I had the program
here to remind me.

The web site, http://www.ntworthy.com, has a user's forum where people
post questions and tricks to solve problems, and it's worth a browse to
see just what convoluted ideas people come up with to do what ought to
be relatively simple tasks. However, as it's shareware you can at least
try it out before you have to part with any money. Despite these
niggles, for the money it's a pretty comprehensive program and lots of
people find it serves their needs. I'm saving up for Finale, though.
