I have used several different programs for notation on the PC. I have =
used
NoteWorthy, PC composer, Finale, (tried to use) Score, Finale and =
Sibelius.
Sibelius wins hands-down in every way. It is very easy to use, has =
great
MIDI support, etc... Basically it is a program that is made for =
musicians.
It knows how to transpose correctly and it looks beautiful.

You have none of the formatting problems that programs such as Finale
present you with to make things look really good. You should see some =
of
the scores that have come out of Sibelius!!

I am not affiliated with the company in any way, but I would recommend =
it
highly if you are looking to purchase notation software. It is =
currently
only available for PC, but it will be coming out in a few months with a
Macintosh version.

My suggestion to look at NoteWorthy was mainly based on the fact that =
you
can buy it from http://www.ntworthy.com for the princely sum of US $39. =
Some
other notation packages cost an order of magnitude more for not not too =
many
more features. I hear that Sibelius is very good. However, the price is
listed at=20
http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/sibelius/price.html as

Sibelius for Windows=20
Individuals=20
Single copy.......................................=A3695 inc VAT
(@-----.49 exc VAT)

What is this is $US? It's about $1800 NZ which is about what I paid for =
my
R13 a few years ago!

I would even go so far as suggesting that if you are intending to buy a
notation package, you download as many free demos as you can find from =
the
suppliers, try them out, compare features vs price, then make your own
decision. Furthermore, you could buy a very affordable package like
NoteWorthy and use it for a period, then decide if you really need to
mortgage the house for something better. =20

The web addresses of all the major packages plus a host of =
small/cheap/high
value-for-$ ones are easy to find.
