One other thing I'll add to Oliver's MIDISCAN tidbits.

I use PianoScan (to save money), so I do a bit of editing on the scanned
image right away (edit out the staves I'm not currently interested in -
PIANOSCAN only allows up to grand staff notation). I find (for my setup)
to scan in grayscale & then do a despeckle transformation followed by an
image cutoff transformation (all values greater than x become white, all
lower than x black), _then_ let PIANOSCAN have it. I get around 95-99%
correct notation that way.

My biggest problem is with triplets or higher tied notes. Lots of
editing there. Indicated triplets work fine, but many (if not most)
printed pieces of music don't indicate all the triplets.
