I bet you're thinking of Dan Johnston, an Eastman graduate and former 2d/Eb
of the Buffalo Phil. He worked many years with Stanley Hasty on mouthpiece
design.

He has made a number of mouthpieces for me over the years. While he
believes that one's mouthpiece preference is based n dental structure, he
never looked into my mouth--you just try the 4 different types and pick one.

He's actually in Amherst, NY, a suburb of Buffalo. Last time I called him,
he was in the phone book.
