Ditto for my family, Dee. Even today I try to get as much mileage out of my
reeds as possible. I still have and use the cheapie Hamilton music stand that
my mother bought for me when I was in high school in the early 1960s; I have
kept it in such good condition, that it looks nearly new. And my student
clarinet was a Pruefer hard rubber clarinet. It probably held me back a little
but I, too, was among the best clarinetists in my high school orchestra. Today
I play on wood clarinets and will love and appreciate them until the day I
die. An appreciation for hard won things is lacking in much of today's
culture.
