Eh, to be politically correct, you should probably use "Black" as
opposed to some derivation of "African-X". Just my humble opinion. I
always hated when people would go out of their way to address me as an
African-American. Black is easier. I would have problems trying to
address my friends by THEIR family lineages; uh,
Russian-German-Irish-American. Oh well.

I've been in a discussion as part of an "inclusion" panel, where the
majority of individuals were not Caucasian. They couldn't decide among
themselves whether to be blacks, African Americans, negro (Spanish for
black) or as one woman put it, CHOCOLATE - her skin matched a Hershey bar
perfectly!
Uh, most clarinets are "black" aren't they? (i know they're dyed but
couldn't resist)
