Bill Hausmann noted:

<<<Male flute players might as well wear pink dresses to school, the
artistry of Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway notwithstanding.>>>

My best friend in high school--the best man at my first wedding--played
flute. He endured constant taunting from various and sundry brass holes
about his sexuality, given his instrument. One day, on the way to his
sectional, he wryly noted to a particularly noisome trumpet player/wrestler
that while the jock spent all afternoon grabbing another boy's butt, he was
about to spend three thoroughly enjoyable hours cooped in a tiny practice
room with nine girls. He ended up marrying one of them.

Prejudgment of someone because of their choice of instrument is about as
stupid as similar choices based on skin color, sexuality, hair color or
choice of toothpaste. It's what we refer to here at Microsoft as
"random"--a "non-op", a bit of code that wastes resources and doesn't
accomplish anything.
