Because I started this thread I fell obligated to assist. I have always heard
that Evette or Evette Schaeffer was a company that was licensed to use the
Buffet logo and built both student and intermediate instruments. Here is the
information from Langwill;

Evette & Schaeffer WWI, BI fl Paris 1885-1929
1885 Paul Evette (d 25 March 1918) and Ernest
Schaeffer bought the firm of Buffet-Crampon, then
owned by Goumas; 1896 commenced manufacture of
BIs,later discontinued; 1918 Maurice Evette (d1929)
successor; 1929 a new firm was founded under the
name of 'Buffet-Crampon', which name however had
never been dropped.

Information in Langwill's index about Buffet-Crampon supports this also but
gives no history past 1927. Something must have happened between then and now
or all of us R13 players really playing Evette-Schaeffers?

Someone mentioned that the B-12 is an Evette. My B-12 is plastic, was made in
Germany and does not say Evette anywhere on it.

Is there still a manufacturer named Evette?

Finally onto what started this, what is the opinion of the members about
buying a wooden Evette for $100 that needs "repadding and resoaking in oil"?
