Claudia,

I presently have a girl tuba player who is first chair and plans to major on
tuba in college. She carries a Yamaha Metal Sousaphone during marching
season and hangs in there better than most of the boys. She's about the
sixth or seventh girl I've had on tuba and they have all done very well.
This girl has made the All-State Band and has been first chair in the
All-District Band three years in a row. next week she's playing in the
All-South Honor Band.

On the other hand, I have several boys who are super clarinet players and
have had boys on flute that have been first chair. a long time ago all of
this was unheard of, but not these days, (in my area, anyway)!
