Perfect Pitch Meets Sci Fi

For you science fiction fans out there, Anne McCaffrey has a book out
called "Crystal Singer" (and it's sequel, "Killashandra") in which the
protagonist must have perfect pitch and be able to sound (by singing) an
accurate pitch. In this way, the 'crystal singers' will create
vibrations within a fictional type of crystal that sound back the
harmonics of the tones. Accurate returns of the harmonics enable the
'singers' to determine which variety of crystal is good for what
applications. I believe the theory behind the pitch sounding and
harmonics etc is sound (no pun intended) - and a cool basis for a job!-
and it's a good story, if you like McCaffrey or just for fun.
