My current set of pads is four years old. I oil my instrument regularly and
never take any precautions not to get oil on the pads. Strange as it seems
the oil seems to act as a water repellency. I have not had to replace a
single pad in four years! I play at least two hours every day, some days
quite a bit more. I think we should oil our bores and our pads. I use
Leblanc bore oil.

my instrument regularly for over 8 years, and have never encountered
problems. My current set of pads is about 2 years old, and working well.
Maybe I am missing something?
