To the point that a local NE architectural supply house is named "Charette".

Our company deals with architects and they often use the term when
describing a design project that must be done quickly to satisfy a client.

The original meaning stems from the name of the cart that was used in France
to gather student architectural drawings. Students would work on projects at
home and then have them picked up for grading. They evidently did not have
organized "labs" to work in but rather studied with master architects and
then worked on their drawings at home. Much like we study and practice.

Evidently, it now mostly pertains to a rough final exam period just before
graduation when they need to provide design projects in a relatively short
time to graduate.

Charette is still a common term in architectural circles, and indeed, is
related back to the urban planners of medieval France, who went from town
center to town center with their carts of layout tools.
