Subj: [kl] definition of "Charette"
Date: Tue, 2 Feb 1999 08:30:36 -0500

A bit of useless trivia:

According to "Mrs. Byrne's Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous
Words" by Josefa Heifetz Byrne (University Books/Citadel Press, Secaucus,
NJ, 1974), The word "charette" is defined as:

n. 1. the eleventh-hour efforts of architecture students to solve their
design-problem assignments. 2. applied more generally to other work with
specific due dates. 3. a cart or chariot.

Mark, does any of this sound like it fits?

By the way, Josefa Heifetz is a trained concert pianist and composer by
trade. Every entry in her dictionary has been accepted as a formal or
legitimate English word by at least one major dictionary, including such
outrageous things as "hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian" (adj. pertaining to a
very, very long word. see sesquipedalian.)

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
