Thank you, Dee. I plan to do exactly that. While I'm not having problems
now, I plan to have my professional clarinet teacher pay particular attention
to my hand positions, especially my left hand at my next (and subsequent)
lessons. She is aware of my history.

Is it Occam's razor that states or implies that the simplest (or the most
obvious) solution is often the correct one? If so, that may be in operation
here. I consulted briefly with my primary care physician who indicated that
it *might* simply be from using muscles I haven't used in a while...(and I
guess 40 years qualifies as "a while"). He also added the proviso that if any
pain or discomfort continues or gets worse to come in for more thorough
diagnostic measures, etc.

I appreciate your concern. Thanks for the input.
