My best friend's wife died from this. Nancy, a bassoonist, prepared her
horn for our group's first rehearsal of the year by giving it a dose of
linseed oil (which I guess is standard among bassoonists?). When she opened
her case at rehearsal, three bees flew out and stung her. She went into
anaphylactic shock, was and was taken to the emergency room by ambulance
(her "bee sting kit" didn't work). After being on the vent for 3 weeks, she
passed away.

I'm not suggesting that no one should oil their bores because of
this--although if you know you are allergic to bee venom, I'd take it under
advisement. I've seen too many horns with bug trails, however, to let a
vegetable oil near my instrument.
