Subj: [kl] Stravinsky Firebird and auditions

Hello all,
Once again I'm faced with the issue of editons of Stravinsky's Firebird. The
Dallas Symphony's tape audition requirements includes the Variation (1919
version). I have two editions both are marked 1919 version. One includes the
questionable lick one bar before rehearsal #14. For the purposes of the tape
should I play the questionable passage? ( I understand it was probably scored
for the alto flute). I've practiced the passage so much I think I can finally
play it, but have to admit the piece of mind you get from omitting it is (to
quote Martha Stewart) "a good thing." Shouldn't the fact that a specific
edition has been requested be enough to free us from questions. Is it just me
that still questions this passage? I welcome your opinions.
Yours,
Mario Estrada
Florida West Coast Symphony
