Looking for information from analytical types (those who experiment and
analyze what they are doing when playing) about embouchre and the altissimo.
There appear to be 2 schools of thought regarding embouchre and the altissimo.
The most prevalent saying never change the embouchre, use lots of breath
support and that nasty old altissimo note will just pop right out easy as pie.
A slight variation on this says to shape the mouth as in making the sound
eeeeeeeeee. Whenever I do that my embouchre changes drastically and I lose all
control and tone. The other school of thought is that you will not reach the
altissimo without more lip pressure and that people who advocate no change are
in fact changing their lip unknowingly. I practised the altissimo A, B and C
for awhile and found that I could never reach the B and C without increasing
lip pressure. I have since forgotten those notes as they drive my wife crazy.
Anyway how about some feedback on how you do altissimo notes.
