I've only heard "ax" describing guitars, but then that was in the context of
old time rock and roll and folk music. Never found out the derivation of that
one either.
Guitar and clarinet? Interesting to imagine (but electric?), but if we're
talking about Charlie Byrd, then anything is possible.... But I think any
self-respecting wood clarinet would be nervous ;-)
