If you are going to cover the pads, its better to use foil rather than wax
paper, which the oil can penetrate. Also, if a drop of oil gets in the hole,
it will still get on the pad after you remove the paper/foil. Of course,
this means you are using to much oil in the first place.

Again, oiling was more important when instruments were made softer woods,
such as boxwood. But as we loose our supply of black woods, you are seeing
more of these woods (such as the very porous rosewood)in use again, and
oiling is needed more often.
