One day in the pit, Bass Clarinet quit working, as I looked
down with horror I realized a pad had fallen out and I'd just kicked
it into a crack in the pit floor, condemning it to the bowels of the
earth forever. To make things worst the one bass clarinet solo
in the show was in 20 seconds.
Looking around the stage floor, I got lucky.
Ripping a piece of the oboe player bag of reed stuff--plastic bag--
,& finding tissue paper on the floor. It took about 15 seconds
to wrap the tissue in plastic, shove it under the pad cup,
and secure with a rubber band.
Time for one big breath, a short prayer, & It worked.

I'm now never without an emergency kit!!!
