David ,

I have played Centered Tones and their offspring Series 9's for years. They
are the last of the big bored Selmers that dominated the clarinet world the
first half of the 20th Century. They blow freely. They have a dark, not
fruity sweet small bore sound.

CT's tend to slight sharpness in the left hand chalumeau. The throat tones
are controllably sharp but they have a full, round sound. The clarinet
register is clear and strong. They're great for fff playing. Benny
Goodman was a CT player.

The key work is first rate---very solid. I, personally, have never seen
any serious cracks in the wood.

Buy one. They're out of fashion and cheap!
