Subj: [kl] Pains in hand
Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 19:06:55 -0500

Help! I've only been playing again for about a month, and I'm developing
aches and pains in my left hand -- I think they are from the wrist being
splayed down, as that wrist motion can induce the symptoms...unfortunately so
can other motions with the left hand. Do I need to learn somewhat different
hand positions? I think the aches and pains in my left hand are from the
wrist being splayed down, as that wrist motion can induce the
symptoms...unfortunately so can other motions with the left hand. Having had
surgery on both hands from workplace keyboard-induced carpal tunnel syndrome,
I'm very, very cautious. Have had to cut out practice for a week, take an
over-the-counter anti-inflammatory, etc.

I've tried to change my hand position, but it's hard to realize what's going
on, as the pain doesn't come during a practice session - it's usually much
later, often the next day. Since I won't be seeing my instructor for a week,
I wonder if anyone on the list has any suggestions for me. I'm already using
"Hand-eze" gloves, which helps.

I use speech recognition software at work, and do very little keyboarding at
home.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
