I thought I should report that Thea King, after considering the E/E#
problem in the Poulenc 2Sonata for a couple of days, has changed her
mind in favour of E#. Her reason is roughly that of David Blumberg, who
feels that E# is too prevalent a part of the harmonic atmosphere
elsewhere to be thrown away without explicit cancellation (if I
represent him rightly).

I can understand the point of view. It increases the tonal separation
between the two clarinets on the second page, and so affects how unified
the first movement is, because the separation is certainly quite marked
on the first and third pages (until the final bar of each). It also
thus indirectly impacts the effect of the second movement.

I used to be undecided, but now I'm not so sure. <kidding> It would be
nice to correct all those Frenchmen. <kidding> Don't know which
direction Drucker's decision pushes me.</kidding></kidding>
