I found another problem with putting more pinky keys on my basset
horn. Namely, the one for the right hand gets sufficiently far
away from the axis of the hand, that one loses leverage and it is
hard to close the hole with the key. Maybe that was only the
setup I had on one of my two basset horns, but I could not
exercize enough leverage to close the hole due to the enormous
stretch involved. And that could have been one of the design
considerations that caused Selmer and Buffet to put the needed
keys into the thumb.
