When I was handed my first clarinet at my first lesson in elementary
school in the fourth grade, I instinctively picked up the instrument and
held it with my right hand on top (I am right-handed - yes, I now hold
the instrument "correctly"!). Throughout the years I've heard of
left-handed basses, etc., and wondered what the point was: after all,
you use BOTH hands to play the instrument! (Serious question): is there
really an advantage to having your "preferred hand" work the
bottom-joint keys?
