An heard an inspiring story for Sara that might help, if others on the list
can help me fill in the blanks--

I heard it on NPR--they were talking about a famous trumpet player in New
Orleans--early in his career he was so bad everywhere he played everyone told
him to give it up--he was loud, he was off key, he stank. But he loved
playing and he kept it up--years later he became the best player in the
country and inspired the young Louis Armstrong in his playing.

Hopefully someone will be able to supply the name of the trumpet player!

The idea is that different people have different learning curves. Or culture
puts a lot of emphasis on those who show a lot of early progress--but think
how often such people crash and burn! If someone progresses slowly at first
we assume they have less to offer, but au contraire, if they stick with it,
they often have much more to offer.
