Subj: [kl] Roger Harvey's question about upgrading

Roger, I just returned to the clarinet after about 40 years. You will enjoy
yourself more (and we both returned for the enjoyment) with the highest
quality instrument you can afford. I had originally intended to get a used,
one cut above a student model. I bought a new artist-professional model, and
it has made a tremendous difference in my ease of playing and sound compared
to what I had originally intended to purchase.

Keep an open mind - it certainly helps if you can try out several. However,
if that is not the case, if the vendor has several models, or several of the
same model, perhaps you can discuss the "playability" and sound with the
vendor by phone....thereby running up astronomical phone bills.

Good luck, and welcome back!
