Subj: [kl] Bill Hausmanns inspirational story

Let me second Paulette's comments about Bill's inspirational story. Since
there are a lot of educators on this list, let me ask if the type of student
Bill was is prevalent today...particularly at the middle and high school
level. I'm especially interested in metropolitan area regular public middle
and high schools (not magnet schools, which draw a higher percentage of
bright, motivated students, and committed, concerned parents). Since I do not
have children in the public schools, I'm wondering how much of what the media
shows is distorted regarding student motivation. I only see the results once
they get to the workplace, and a lot of what I've seen is pretty dismal.
Thanks in advance for contributing to my understanding of the matter.
