Age 11 and enthusiastic, I go to the school music teacher Miss Carol
(truey) and BEG her for a clarinet to play.
I loved the sound and hated piano!
She Gives me a plastic Bundy with a chipped reed still in the mouthpiece
from the last kid that rented it and sent me home with a level one band
method - clarinet book. No lesson or instructions.... So I spend all
week end obsessivly with this horn and come back monday to show the
teacher how I can play 4 scales from the book ......
Yes the reed was upside down.
Hey when a kid is determined ......
The crazy thing is that I still think that the scales played pretty well
that way!
Miss Carol arranged for a teacher for me the next day!!!!
