If it is his basset clarinet in A, it was made in 1982 from old clarinet
parts. It is a one of a kind - Shifrin showed it to me and demonstrated
the design of the low register keys - all on top with the other keys rather
than thumb keys (to be played by the pinky fingers). Quite a unique design.
As far as his regular instrument goes, he plays on a couple of those "poor"
Buffet R-13's because he likes to bite too hard and fight intonation
problems when he plays (sorry.....couldn't resist.....LOL) - just kidding.
