Why? - actually, I think he may have been teasing a little (she says,
hopefully). There was an attempt to get a marching band list going but
it's sort of fizzled because (I think) the season has wound down - or
maybe there wasn't enough interest. (Mark, is it still available?)

Your HS band experience is similar to what happens at several competing
schools in our area. Our district is under court mandate to accept all
students ("No Cut" policy) - whether they play an instrument or not.
Making someone an alternate is an acceptable non-cut. They still get all
the experience etc . In actuality, non players are often handed a pair
of cymbals and given a spot on the field! They still have to work,
though - HARD!

Woodshedding works well for memorizing...
