I asked this question sometime last year, but never really got an answer.
Maybe Mr Ridenour can shed some light on the question.
What I'm wondering is why Selmer and LeBlanc basses don't have the same
fingerings for notes below low E. I play a LeBlanc bass, and my teacher
plays Selmer, and whenever we switch horns it takes me about 5 minutes to
work out what's going on. It seems to me that the LeBlanc fingerings are a
little bit more logical - they certainly fit nicely under the hand in the
Khachaturian piano concerto solos. But that could be because I'm used to
them. Is there any reason for the differences, or is it just that keywork
has never been standardised?
