Similar story: I was at a master class at Pacific Lutheran University held
by none other than Bud Herseth (roughly the orchestral trumpet equivalent of
Stanley Drucker, for you clarinet-only people; he's been principal trumpet
of the Chicago Symphony for over half a century.)

A kid, maybe 12 or so, asked Mr. Herseth "what you do to your trumpet that
makes it sound so good?" Without missing a beat, he answered (with a large
twinkle in his eye): "I practiced it."
