It is always suspect to suppose what a person intended unless one can
actually ask them.

There is little doubt that the opening of Le Sacre still brings tension,
both to the player, his colleagues and the concert audience. Since it was
unique in the literature in the first part of the 20th century, bassoonists
and bassonists both must have been freaking back then. Many still are.

It is the performer that brings music to life. All emotions are in play.
It is what we do, tension or whatever.
