Hmm. I don't presently leave my clarinet assembled because I'm
afraid to do so. I do leave some of my recorders assembled. I play
recorder at least 4 or 5 times a day for about 5 minutes as a break
from whatever else I'm doing, and end up maintaining and improving
my skill level on recorder without conscious effort. In contrast, I
have to schedule time for practicing clarinet.

I'm actually sorely tempted right now to try leaving out my clarinet
with a Legere plastic reed on it (doesn't need soaking). If I do
always take it apart before going to bed, carefully wiping from
dust, and greasing the corks, and the location is secure (no pets,
protected from falling objects), is there really such a risk? My
life has turned a lot busier since Christmas, and I find that in my
scheduled practicing time I barely get through a most basic of
warmups and practicing pieces for upcoming performances, without
time for "developmental" playing. It's bugging me.
