When I was in 8th grade (I started playing the clarinet in 7th), I played
on a plastic Vito clarinet with a Noblet mouthpiece (yuck on both accounts
- couldn't get either to blow well a couple of years ago and sold them!).
I used to leave my clarinet out on my bed in my bedroom with the page of
music I had finished with still up on the stand. Everytime I came into
the room, I would see the clarinet, soak the reed real quickly and
practice a bit. More often than not, I would be so focused on trying to
accomplish a specific goal at a specific spot on the page, that a half
hour would go by before I realized it. Sometimes, especially on weekends,
I would venture into the room (bored?) and do the same. No wonder my
parents tell me that they never had to remind me to practice.

Now we have Nintendo 64, Sega, Playstation, etc. and children don't do
what I used to do anymore. *sigh*

I wouldn't recommend the above technique with a wooden clarinet.
