Several months ago while participating in a discussion of the effects of
temperature on tuning/doubling, you advised [I don't have the post, so I am
paraphrasing, likely incorrectly]," If it is too cold, shove it [the
clarinet], up your 'jumper'." Good advice and non provocative if you reside
in the UK, New Zealand or Australia. The term, 'jumper', in those climes
refers to a knit pullover [called a sweater in this part of the world]
commonly worn by school children [not exclusively] to stave off hypothermia
during the wet and cool winter season.
The term 'jumper' in Canada denotes a sleeveless dress [frock] worn over
a blouse [girls shirt]. You can imagine what an eye catcher "shove it up
your jumper" was.
Or not. Maybe it's only me. Couldn't get it out of my head. Had me
smiling for days.
