The old Frank Music Company, which David Neithamer evokes with such
nostalgia, is alive and thriving at a new address, but now on the 10th
rather than the 24th floor. 212-582-1999 is all I have listed on my
Rolodex. They are somewhere in Midtown Manhattan, within a couple
blocks of Times Square, you can call for the address. The proprietor is
a lovely young jazz singer named Melanie, and she knows her business
cold and she has EVERYTHING in stock.

A True Story: last January I went there to get scores and sheet music
and chamber music. I asked for a certain Mozart score and mentioned I
planned to study it in advance of a Vienna Philharmonic concert, to be
held in early March. She came out with everything I wanted and...the
overture to Cimarosa's Secret Marriage. "Did I have this?" No, but why
do I need it? "Trust me, you'll be happy you have it", and besides it
was only $8 and she had such a nice smile and she gave me 10% off of an
ENORMOUS purchase for paying cash.

So I went to the Wiener Philharmoniker concert at Carnegie a couple of
months later, advertized as all Mozart. And that's all they played for
the body of the concert.

What encore did they play? You got it....the overture to Cimarosa's
Secret Marriage. And dammit, I hadn't even looked at the score after
the train ride home.

How she ever knew is beyond me.

Enjoy,

Robert Howe
