Probably someone's already said this, and anyway I apologise for perhaps
stating the obvious, but I'd say that there is a very delightful
continuum to be explored between practice and performance: namely,
playing appropriate music with a carefully chosen someone else for your
own mutual enjoyment. It's almost the best thing about music.

This someone else can be a pianist or....whatever. (Probably 'whatever'
is nicer:-)

Then more people if you want, or not if you don't.
