ok, i have a funny one to share...

A friend of mine who was also a grad. student at Wayne State U. (Detroit)
used to always insist that her dogs (2 big fluffy ones) really liked her
reeds and used to try to steal them from her! She would sometimes find
the remains of a reed, stashed away under the doggie beds, all wet and full
of bite marks! I don't think our teacher ever really believed her until I
was able to relate the following story to him - and I'll now share it with
the list...

One evening, we were rehearsing the Poulenc Sonata for 2 clarinets for her
upcoming Grad. recital. We were in the living room, just tooting away when
suddenly, doggie #1 decides to get sick (eeek!) just about at our feet. He
just walked right up to the spot between our stands and hurled! While my
friend was rushing about trying to clean up the mess, I spotted doggie #2,
slowly creeping his way up to the small coffee table that was next to us
and full of reeds (all in various stages of sanding and adjusting). He
carefully inched his nose up to the table.... I watched him then stick out
his long, pink tongue and try to lick one off the table!!!! I screamed to
my friend "Oh no! reed thief!!!" and shooed him away! She told me to
guard the reeds with my life until she could return, as she feared they
might make another attempt...
As it was, doggie #2 got to lick the back of a reed.
Doggie #1 didn't get sick again. He did get sent outside briefly, though.

much smarter than we give them credit. It was absolutely obvious that they
had well-planned this little reed heist, and if it were not for my
presence, they would have gotten away with it!!!

Be Warned--your doggies might be reed/equipment junkies underneath all of
that fluff and wet-nosed kisses!!!
