It seems to be a good instrument (minus some rotten pads - which hopefully
will get fixed soon)!
However, the mouthpiece is really a hunk of junk!
any ideas???>

You don't mention which mouthpiece this is or what's bad about it, but if the
alto clarinet sounds muffled and too quiet, try a Selmer HS* mouthpiece. I'm
using one on my Selmer "A" series alto clarinet and I like this combination a
lot. Not sure how well the HS* would work with a Buffet alto, however. I've
heard that generally Selmer mouthpieces sound best on Selmer clarinets. Might
be worth a tryout in a store, anyway.

I know that many people aren't thrilled with the HS* for Bb clarinet because
it can sound shrill. I had that impression when I tried the HS* on my 1937
Buffet Bb clarinet (I ended up sticking with an old hard rubber "no name" with
a short, fat chamber and a very closed tip), so I'm curious what other people
would think of the HS* on a Buffet alto.
