In most cases, a server failure on your end will cause the messages to
stack up for you; after a while the mailing list software will just send
you a message saying which messages you missed and how to retrieve them.
After two weeks of your server being down or refusing mail for you,
you'll get unsubscribed (but you'll have other problems by then,
anyway!)

In Roger's case his server accepted all the mail, but just refused to
deliver it, I guess (which is much worse than just refusing mail -
there's no notification to the sending party that there was a problem).
