I was once at a concert that Otto Werner Mueller conducted in New Haven.
After the maestro entered and the audience's greeting settled down, one could
gradually hear a baby's crying become ever so present and then stop. Again it
started and stopped. The Maestro began to raise his baton and the baby lets
out another short burst. Mueller slowly lowers his arms and stands still on
the podium in heavy silence. Suddenly he turns in the direction of the
baby's cry and says in his deep German hued voice, "Please rrremove your
baby!" There was no applause.

line ringuette wrote:

Neeme Jarvi, his arms still up, the orchestra still
poised in playing position - turns his head around to the audience and
shakes it: "no, no, no" he says... then he turns back to the orchestra,
pauses, and finally lowers his baton, and the musicians lower their
instruments! HAHAHA!!! THEN the big applause broke out!!!
