For me, this is the crux of the matter. Not sharing your performance
problems, I have no problem playing or singing in public, or at least no
problem I can't deal with. (After all of the lectures I have given in my
career, I have to have developed some sang froid.) So perhaps I have more
outlets for making music than you do, but I agree with the concept - better
to make less-than-perfect music while striving for excellence than to refuse
to play because perfection is beyond me. And I'm going to have a ball when
I retire and can take the time to take some lessons.

Your "spectator sport" analogy is a good one - I feel the same way about sports.

So keep at it, and do it your way!
