Subj: [kl] Buffet register tube placement
Date: Sat, 16 Jan 1999 19:23:33 -0500

I am responding to the recent discussions on register tube placement. It has
been stated that the higher the tube on the bore, the smaller the twelfths
will be. This apparently improves the tuning, and the break becomes smoother.
Here's the question... Would the ratio be the same if the register tube on a
standard R13 was made with a larger internal diameter? Theoretically, a
larger hole placed further down on a wind instrument (towards bell) will
produce the same pitch as a smaller hole higher up on the bore. Has anyone
experimented with this idea?

Also, is the sound affected by mis-alligned joints (i.e. the end of one tube
is not concentric in it's socket)? If so, how is the sound/pitch affected?
