Jennifer,
I truly sympathize with your problem. I am a double-lip player and have
been since my Yale years and studying with Kalman Opperman.
I have developed a whole pegagogy on correctly playing double-lip and the
method I use should help your jaw problems immensely.
Let me recommend the following:
Read my article: French Embouchure; A Survey in The Clarinet Magazine, ca.
1991 (It's a black cover issue, I remember that.)
Next, log on to my web site, http://home1.gte.net/klarinet/ scroll down
to the bottom of the page and click on "articles".
When the articles list downloads you will see titles of various monographs.
Open the one entitled: How to Teach and Learn Characteristic Clarinet Tone,
read it.
Open the other entitled; Understanding the role of Embouchure in Clarinet
tone Production.
After you have read these articles and have absorbed the information give
me a call and we can talk about specifics. I am usually home after 7 CST
every evening.
My home number is 1-940-382-3712.
There is no reason you need to be give up clarinet playing because ofjaw
problems. Correct double-lip playing eliminates jaw pressure altogether.
There is also no reason, if you apply these techniques correctly that you
cannot rather quickly make progress.
Good luck. And if there is any way I can help you just give me a call, or
email me about this.
best regards,
tom ridenour
