LOL! On the contrary! I adore going into the city for my lessons. I live
near Hartford, CT, so going is an all day event. BUT... what an event it has
become.

1. I make sure I get to the New Haven train station early enough to get a
coffee and a chocolate frosted donut before my train takes off. (I cut it
quite close, but a little running is worth the donut...)

2. By the time my bus gets to Lincoln Center, that first coffee has worn off
(I have to get up much earlier than I'm used to to catch the train), so I must
find a second cup. Now being a Connecticut backwoods wimp, I need to find
coffee that doesn't rip the skin off my tongue (for fear of losing that
fastissimo staccato!) After much searching, I found a little place off
Columbus Ave (the name escapes me now) that has GREAT coffee.

3. I keep my eyes open all along the route for that extra special prize... A
magazine left behind by some lunchtime luncher. Sometimes I find one! I
stuff it in my bag to read on the way home, because... it's FREE!

4. Also along the route I keep my eyes open for people, because once I rode
the bus with one of my soap stars! Whoohoo!

5. By now I've gotten down 67th street for my lesson, which is an adventure
all in itself...

6. And of course coming home is just as fun. Depending on how hungry I am
and how much money I have left, I have various "dinner" points I like to hit.
(by the way, the lounge upstairs in Grand Central has great peanuts in bowls
on the bar and... they're FREE!)

7. And if it's still early when I get back to New Haven, a third coffee from
Dunkin Donuts is always good. :)

8. Also, the car ride to and from New Haven is always a good time to catch up
on listening in my car. (Especially if I stopped at Tower Record... You
know, opening wrapped CD's in your car with your teeth requires quite a
technique.)
